Thank you to our wonderful community for helping make our 10th Annual Candy Drive a huge success. Every year, the drive grows in size and scope. What started as a small candy buy back with a handful of local kids has grown into an endeavor that spans the Metrowest: this year, we have 41 number of schools participating, along with numerous businesses and organizations. Best of all, we have collected more candy than ever before: we have shattered a record of nearly 10,000 pounds of candy. To be exact, if anyone is curious, we collected 9,883.3 pounds of candy.

I’m sure everyone is wondering what we’re going to do with so much candy - and no, we will not be eating it all! The candy will be assembled into care packages and distributed to our troops all over the world. This is no small feat, and we are beyond thankful to be working with CarePacks, a non-profit organization who helps us make this happen.

Thank you to our troops and veterans for everything they do to keep us safe. The dedicated men and women who serve us overseas deserve so much more than we can offer; we simply hope these small treats offer a little taste of home, and a token of our gratitude.

Last but not least, congratulations to the winning school this year: Katherine Lee Bates Elementary School in Wellesley! They received our $1000 Grand Prize for the most candy collected per student.

Stay tuned for more pictures.

We did it again! The 8th annual community candy drive was an amazing success! We had over 30 schools from 13 different towns and more than 9,000 students participate in our drive, making it the largest in size and scope thus far. To make it even sweeter, we collected more candy than ever before! We are beyond thrilled that our community, and so many neighboring communities, came together in the spirit of generosity to show gratitude and appreciation for our troops overseas. We hope they enjoy these sweet treats, along with handwritten notes, cards and oral hygiene supplies.

Here are some highlights from our event:

Our annual community candy drive was in full swing last week, and candy donations from schools and organizations were piling in.

We culminated with a press event on November 5th, paying homage to our troops overseas, showing off our mountain of candy, and bringing the community together in the spirit of giving, and a little competition! This year, our $1000 grand prize was shared between two winning schools, Upham Elementary in Wellesley, and Delaney Elementary in Wrentham!

It's Candy Drive Time Again!

October 3rd, 2015

[caption id="attachment_9007" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Dr. Zarah Ali, Dr. Femina Ali, and Dr. Ejaz Ali hosting the 2014 Candy Drive[/caption]

It's Candy Drive time again here at the Wellesley Dental Group, and we're as excited as ever! As the season changes and becomes cooler, and Halloween draws nearer, we're gearing up to host the 8th Annual Candy Drive for the troops this November 5th!

Donations to the Candy Drive will be happily accepted up until Thursday, November 5 at Wellesley Dental Group on 5 Seaward Rd in Wellesley. We request that  donations be dropped off between 8 am to 11 am. Be sure to follow our Candy Drive Facebook Page for more updates and photos!

Each year, the WDG collects candy donations, as well as hand written notes and letters, from all around the metro-west region. All the candy that is collected is sent to US soldiers serving abroad, via Care Packs, along with the heart-warming letters and cards, and hygiene packages.

More than 7600 lbs. of Candy collected in 2014!

If you or your organization are interested in participating in this great cause, send us an email at, call us at 781-237-9071, or come drop by at 5 Seaward Road, Wellesley! Candy collection officially starts on the 31st of October, and continues until the 5th of November. Also join us at our Candy Drive finale event on the 5th of November, at 10:00 am, at the Wellesley Dental Group!

Last year's event saw the highest amount of candy donated so far, and a huge number of beautifully made cards. At our press event, even the threat of snow and the freezing wind could not sway the enthusiasm of the large group of metro-west residents, including school children, gathered to honor the US troops. As part of the Veteran's Day celebrations, and the grand finale of the 7th Annual Community Candy Drive, this event brought together schools and organizations from across the region, to express gratitude for the soldiers serving abroad.

[caption id="attachment_8993" align="alignleft" width="600"]DSC02060 Students interacting with our Troops![/caption]

The final weight of the candy donated amounted to 7650 pounds, with participation from schools in Needham, Natick, Framingham, Weston, Dedham, Westwood, Newton, Wellesley, Jamaica Plains and Waltham! Students, parents and teachers from these schools were present at this event. The 2014 Candy Drive managed to cross state boundaries with the involvement of an organization from Connecticut, as well!

The event started with a striking rendition of the national anthem DSC02080by a seven-year old Elementary School Student, Evan Lariviere. The Wellesley High School Keynote Singers Club was present, and performed America The Beautiful. Speakers at the event included Wellesley Selectman Ellen Gibbs, who commended the Wellesley Dental Group and all participating towns in coming together for the cause. Dr. David Lussier, School Superintendent Wellesley, also spoke, highlighting how almost every person present would be able to trace their lineage back to a Veteran. The President of Care Packs, a non-profit organization that creates and sends individual packages to soldiers, Mr. Rick Bruce, thanked the community for contributing each year, and relayed how candy from past years has made thousands of soldiers happy.DSC02280DSC02248

The highlight of the event was the presence of the US Marines, Army and the National Guards, the American Legion, the Wellesley Fire Department and the Wellesley Police Department. Community members and children enjoyed personally interacting with Veterans and soldiers on active duty, and  getting their photographs taken in front of the huge candy display. The event ended with a prize giving ceremony sponsored by the Wellesley Dental Group, rewarding the students present at the event for their contribution to the cause, and awarding certificates to participating schools and organizations.

We hope that you're as excited as we are to kick start the 2015 Wellesley Dental Group Candy Drive. For more photos, check out our Facebook Page. Stay tuned, there are more great photos to come!

7th Annual Candy Drive: Send the Sweet Message of Support to Our Troops!

October 16th, 2014

[gallery link="none" ids="5854,5894,7179,7182"]

Halloween is right around the corner! For some, this is one of the most exciting holidays of the year, with its costume parties, spooky decorations, and of course, trick-or-treating!

The kids, probably, love this holiday the most - the look forward to dressing up and collecting sweets door-to-door in the neighborhood. They do a great job and often collect quite a bounty they can't possibly eat! Well, they will tell you otherwise, of course, but eating candy every day of the week does not benefit the health of their teethTo save the pretty little smiles from cavities AND to teach the young ones lessons of sharing, encourage the children (and adults!) to donate the leftover candy to our troops oversees at our 7th Annual Candy Drive! The soldiers love getting the letters and the sweet message of support from home!

We will be collecting candy, handwritten notes and cards for our soldiers from November 3rd to November 14th at our office at 5 Seaward Rd in Wellesley.  To schedule a drop-off, please call us at 781-237-9071. CarePacks, a non-profit organization, will help us ship these overseas to the soldiers!

The celebratory press event is scheduled for November 14th, 10 am at our office. Local media and photographers will capture your generous donation. Principals, faculty, parents, and students (with the permission from their teachers, of course) are welcome to attend. We would love for you to attend the event and see how our community unites in the spirit of giving!

Thank you! For more information, call 781-237-9071 or email us at

Wellesley's First Commercial Solar Installation

July 21st, 2014

On the sunny morning of July 18th, 2014, Wellesley Dental Group welcomed the local friends in the celebration the first commercial solar panel installation. The community came out to support the efforts of the local volunteers of the Wellesley Green Collaborative Network. Wellesley Weston Magazine (see article and pictures), Wellesley Townsman and Wellesley Media Corporation covered the community event.

The event started out with a heart-warming performance of the National Anthem by Evan Lariviere, a Wellesley student of the Upham Elementary School. Evan's calm and confident delivery helped the guests to stop for a moment to reflect and ponder about the main reason for the celebration - the community-wide effort to live in a better society and build a better world the children. The six-year-old shared that he likes doing things for the community and wants to be a dentist or an engineer.

Townsman: Wellesley Dental Group joins list of solar-powered Wellesley buildings

July 11th, 2014

Thank you, Matthew and Olivia!
Come join us at the Solar Installation Party and Open House on July 18th!
Event details are here.

Wellesley Dental Group joins list of solar-powered Wellesley buildings

Matthew Hornung ’16 and Olivia Gieger ’17

The drive for solar power just keeps pushing onwards. The latest advancement for Wellesley: solar panels on a local business.

Drs. Ejaz and Femina Ali of Wellesley Dental Group are in the process of installing solar panels on their office in town. They are installing the panels through the Sustainable Energy Committee’s town-wide initiative, More Power to Choose, which aims to lower energy usage through home energy audits and providing renewable energy opportunities to residents, like their easily-accessible solar power option. By signing up for solar, not only is Wellesley Dental Group reducing their carbon footprint, but they are also helping the town move closer to reaching its goal of installing 50 solar arrays.

Drs. Ali and Ali are “excited to announce this next step as a part of their mission to go green, which they have been working toward for years,” according to a recent press release. “Creating our own clean energy is not only a great economic choice but also is a step towards a common goal of creating a better environment for our children.”

Solar power is not the only way that Drs. Ali and Ali have introduced sustainability into their practice.  Wellesley Dental Group also uses digital x-rays, which eliminates the need for potentially radioactive chemicals used in other routine x-rays.  The office is also engaged in a continuous effort to be completely “paperless” by digitally saving all records, communicating with patients via email and cell phone, and recycling all paper and plastic.

For those interested in learning more about solar power in town, Wellesley Dental Group will be hosting a solar open house in conjunction with the Town’s Sustainable Energy Committee on Friday, July 18 at 10am.  The program will include musical entertainment and commentary from Sustainable Energy Committee Chair Ellen Korpi and Selectman Ellen Gibbs.  Wellesley Dental Group is located at 5 Seaward Road in Wellesley. All are welcome to join.

17th Annual Coat's for Kids Drive

December 6th, 2011

As the colder months approach many are bundling up and participating in seasonal activities and fun. It’s an exciting time of the year with so much hustle and bustle to look forward to. During this time especially it’s nice to reflect, be thankful for all we have, and remember those who are less fortunate.

Many people in New England are without coats this season and we can all play a part in changing this! Wellesley Dental Group will be hosting a drop off station for the 17th Annual Coat’s for Kids Drive running through January 8, 2012. You may drop off coats of all sizes for children, teens, adults, and babies. Please be sure to check for any rips, tears, broken zippers, or permanent stains.

Join us and help keep a child warm this season!

Luminary Night in Wellesley

December 5th, 2011

Last night we had the pleasure of sharing the light with friends and neighbors during Wellesley’s annual Luminary Night.  The event was wonderfully organized by the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club. It was a spectacular sight as families and businesses throughout Wellesley lit luminary candles, creating a stunning town-wide glow. It was a wonderful occasion to come together but more it was a great opportunity to help raise funds for WHJWC’s charitable programs.

We hope everyone enjoyed the night!

Bright Smiles for Life - Japan Fundraiser

March 25th, 2011

During the week of April 11th through 14th, Drs. Ali and Ali invite one and all to join in the efforts to aid earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan and the Pacific during their Bright Smiles for Life fundraiser. Everyone scheduled for a Custom Home Whitening service throughout this week will receive a special price of $299 and 100% of the purchase will be donated to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.

To date, over 450,000 evacuees are living in shelters across Japan and every day that number grows, with more than 17,000 people still unaccounted for. As survivors cope with cold, illness, fuel shortages, and personal loss, continued contributions to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake Relief Fund allow the Red Cross to continue to provide lifesaving access to doctors, nurse counselors, medicines, warmth, and - most important of all - a tiny ray of hope.

Together we can make a difference.

Preparing for Spring

February 24th, 2011

I just love how many wonderful events there are in springtime.

Wellesley Dental Group likes to participate, even if just by donating, to many local events and fundraisers, especially at this time of year.

We just donated to a great event called "A Pot Full of Wishes" which is an evening of fun on March 19 in Boston raising money for "Make-A-Wish."  The event is hosted by the Greater Boston Chi Omega Alumnae Chapter.  I hope they are able to raise enough to reach their goal of granting two wishes.

Another fun event coming up on Saturday, March 26, is the Wellesley Community Children's Center Annual Fun Run at Wellesley College's Keohane Center (see photos from last year's event on our Facebook page).  There are numerous activities kids can choose from, including indoor foot races around the track.  Learn more about the FUN RUN and the WCCC here.

Looking farther ahead, we know that the Wellesley Mothers Forum's Truck Day is another great family day. I'm not sure the date of that yet, but will update you as soon as I know.

Please send us information about your favorite spring events so we can share them with others!  Info about the events can be sent to Thank you!

Happy Valentine's Day

February 14th, 2011

It's the perfect time to draw a love note.  We love that adults and children take the time, even at the dental office, to create drawings and artwork. If only all of us at Wellesley Dental Group were so talented with a marker and crayon.

On Wednesday, February 9, Dr. Nooruddin Pradhan and Dr. Femina Ali are hosting the first “Give Kids a Smile Day,” where children from low-income families will receive free dental care.

Appointments for the dental care may be made by calling 781-237-9071 and are open to children age 17 and under.

Give Kids a Smile Day is an A.D.A. program that usually takes place on the first Friday in February, but dentists around the country may choose to participate on other dates.  It’s estimated that over 380,000 children nation wide will be helped by over 12,000 dentists as part of the program. The month of February is also National Children’s Dental Health Month. Wellesley Dental Group also provides dental health lessons at local preschools and elementary schools, raising awareness about healthy oral hygiene habits.

Dr. Pradhan joined Wellesley Dental Group’s practice a year ago as a Pediatric Dental Specialist. He is an Assistant Professor at Tufts and he's also a Diplomate for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

For more information on the Wellesley Give Kids a Smile Day and how you can get involved, please call 781-237-9071 or send an email to

Free custom home teeth whitening!

September 7th, 2010

Pakistan boyImagine all of New England is flooded and under water.  Now realize that in Pakistan, an area almost exactly the same size as New England IS flooded and under water as a result of devastating monsoon rains this summer.

Extending from the north to the south, these floods have disrupted the lives of over 20 million people, including 6 million children who need food, water, shelter, medications, and vaccinations to prevent malnutrition, water-borne diseases, and infections. To understand the enormity of this disaster, consider that the size and number of people affected by this catastrophe is greater than the 2005 tsunami and the recent earthquakes in Pakistan and Haiti put together.

Drs. Ejaz and Femina Ali of Wellesley are hosting a fundraiser at Wellesley Dental Group and here's where the FREE Custom home teeth whitening comes into play.

Each person who makes a tax-deductible donation of $299 or more to APPNE Flood Relief (see info on APPNE below) will receive a free custom home teeth whitening package, valued at $550 (certain people may not be eligible for medical reasons).

This fundraiser lasts through October 14, where we cap the efforts with a celebration attended by our new specialists: Pediatric dentist, Dr. Nooruddin Pradhan, Orthodontist, Dr. Emad Abdallah, and Periodontist, Dr. Ghazwan Ghazi.

Please call us at 781-237-9071 for more information or to set up your appointment for teeth whitening.  You may also send an email to

Thank you!

The Association of Pakistani Physicians of New England (APPNE) has a track record of providing a substantial relief effort to the people of Pakistan and has set up disaster relief centers across the nation after the flooding. This group, based out of New England, has already collected over $60,000 for this relief effort. Much of this money is being directly used to buy food, medications and vaccination for the affected Pakistani population.  Drs. Ejaz and Femina Ali of Wellesley are originally from Pakistan and are active APPNE members.

APPNE’s goal is to collect over $200,000 during the next month to continue to provide direct assistance for both short term (rations, clean water, disease prevention and treatment) and long term needs (seeds for farming, shelter and disease prevention and treatment) for those affected by the flooding.  APPNE is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization (Tax ID: 360291079).

Invisalign® = iPad

June 14th, 2010

Excitement over the iPad is contagious.  Though it's not a device for everyone, there are plenty of people who want an iPad, in a bad way.

To help those who are lining up for iPads, as well as usher in our new orthodontist, Dr. Abdallah, we're giving a free iPad to each patient who starts Invisalign or Invisalign Teen treatment by July 12 *(starts means has accepted and paid for treatment).

Invisalign® is known as the clear alternative to braces.  Read more about how Invisalign® works and why it's different.

Please call us at 781-237-9071 for more information or to set up a consultation today - you'll be on your way to the smile you've always wanted AND an iPad.

Headache Awareness Week June 6 - 12

June 8th, 2010

Splitting, major, awful, severe, horrible, lingering- those are words people may use when describing headaches.  I know; I used to deal with almost weekly migraines.  Headache questionThough millions suffer from headaches, not everyone understands why.  The National Headache Foundation is sponsoring a Headache Awareness Week this June 6 - June 12.

The foundation uses this time to educate people about why headaches occur, how they affect other aspects of your life, and it provides resources for headache sufferers.  For more information about National Headache Awareness Week, please visit

I don't know I grew out of headaches, or if the night guard Dr. Ali made me kept me from grinding my teeth (which then caused the headaches) but I actually can't remember my last headache.  That's a wonderful feeling!

Father's Day June 20

June 5th, 2010

Father's Day is this Sunday, June 20.

We've interviewed a few dads to see what kind of gifts they'd love, keeping in mind that not all gifts are material.

Father and Child

Here's a compilation of what they thought would make a nice Father's Day present:

1.) A nice relaxing visit together - not a hurried and over-scheduled one.

2.) Tools - what would your Dad buy right now if he were at the hardware/home improvement store with money to spend? Has he mentioned anything that needs replacing or would make home projects easier?

3.) New cell phone.

4.) Digital picture frame (with pictures already uploaded).

5.) A freshly washed and vaccuumed car.

6.) A homemade Father's Day card.

7.) A shirt

8.) Specialty steaks for grilling

9.) A day at the beach building sand castles with the kids and playing frisbee.

10.) A hug, a kiss, and a big "I Love You, Dad!"

There are thousands more wonderful ideas - here are some great gifts that kids can make, courtesy of Family Fun Magazine.

Congratulations to Abby and Rob

Somebody's getting married!

It is only once every few years that the Wellesley Dental Group team gets to experience one of our own getting married, and that time has come.

This weekend, our great friend Abby is getting married to Rob.  We are excited for them and very excited to be a part of their wedding day.

For all of the hard work Abby puts in, she certainly deserves a very relaxing, stress free day surrounded by loved ones and friends.

Best wishes to Abby and Rob as they start their new life as husband and wife.

WMF Truck Day and Baby Food Drive benefitting the Massachusetts Children's Fund

Postponed to Saturday, May 15th, 9:30  am to 12:30 pm

Sprague School parking lot, 401 School St, Wellesley

If you cannot make the event, Wellesley Dental Group is accepting donations and will bring them to the event. Our address is 5 Seaward Road, Wellesley - we're open 8 to 5 Mon - Thursday, and on Friday, 9 am to 1 pm. THANK YOU!

Come see some of your children's favorite trucks and make a difference in the lives of hungry children through the state at the same time!  Last year the WMF raised almost $2,500 and collected over 3,000 jars of baby food and cans of formula.  We hope you'll join us again this year!  Simply bring $5 per child for admission and any unopened baby food or formula you'd like to donate to the event.  All proceeds from the event go directly to the Massachusetts Children's Fund.  This is the perfect way to teach your children the value of giving back to the larger community at an event set up just for them.   Last year they had fifteen different kinds of vehicles -- ranging from fire trucks to construction trucks to police cars to limousines to ambulances to bookmobiles -- this year they're expecting even more!

The Massachusetts Children's Fund is a non-profit organization devoted to the sole purpose of providing baby food and supplies to children in Massachusetts.  Over 100,000 families with children -- many with infants -- sought food assistance last year alone.  You can make a difference by taking part in our event and getting the entire family involved!  For more information on the Massachusetts Children's Fund, visit their website at

Thanks in advance for your generosity and participation in what we hope will be a fun-filled and memorable time for all!  Please spread the word to your friends and family and bring them with you.  This event is open to all!

Please contact Joanna Bandte, WMF Special Programs Coordinator, with any questions about the event at or 617-821-1889.

Free skin cancer screenings in Massachusetts

April 26th, 2010

Skin cancer screenings are a very important step in making sure you have a clean bill of health, but they are often skipped for a variety of reasons.  Most of the free skin cancer screenings we come across happen starting in March of each year.  Unfortunately, the free screenings dwindle down as we head into fall and winter.

When we come across free screenings for skin cancer or other illnesses, we'll do our best to keep them updated for you.   Please pay attention as some of these screenings require appointments.

Do you have a free health screening that you'd like us to share? Please email us at

Candy drive

October 31st, 2009

WDG Team and 900 lbs of candy

WELLESLEY, MA -- A huge pile of candy does not scare the dentist away! In fact, Drs. Ali and Ali of Wellesley Dental Group say “bring it on” when it comes to the tons of candy local children collect at Halloween. Children and their parents are invited to drop off extra candy to benefit overseas troops during the second-annual Halloween Candy drive.

[caption id="attachment_516" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="In 2008, more than 900 pounds of candy went to overseas troops."]In 2008, more than 900 pounds of candy went to overseas troops.[/caption]

Candy can be delivered to Wellesley Dental Group, 5 Seaward Road in Wellesley between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 9 am to 1 pm on Fridays, starting November 2 through November 13.

Each child will receive $1 for paper lunch bags full of candy in this candy “buy-back.” Last year, over 900 pounds of candy were donated to S.K.I.P. (Special Kindness in Packages, Inc.) This year, the goal is for over 2,000 pounds of candy to be sent to troops in fun care packages.  (We've actually upped the goal from 1,000 pounds).

For more information about the drive and Drs. Ali’s “Keeping Cavities off the Streets” campaign, please call 781-237-9071.

All of our events are featured on our Facebook and twitter accounts.  To stay in the loop, we welcome you to friend us on Facebook (we have a group and a fan page) or follow @WellesleyDental on twitter.

Sun Life Financial Health Fair

October 21st, 2009

It was a pleasure to meet so many people today at Sun Life Financial - we couldn't believe the turnout for the employee health fair. So many people took advantage of Body Mass Index screenings, blood pressure checks, and cholesterol tests.

We commend Sun Life for taking a strong position in helping their employees stay healthy and for hosting these fairs.

The most common questions and comments we heard today about dentistry were:

1.) I've heard of Invisalign. I've had braces before, so can I get Invisalign?

Many people have heard of Invisalign, or know someone who has used Invisalign. Most adults are good candidates for Invisalign, including people who have had traditional metal braces before. We recommend patients come in for a no-obligation consult with our doctors to make sure they are candidates, and from that point on, it's all about suiting your individual needs and desires for your smile with the best ourse of treatment.

2.)Where are you located?

We are located at 5 Seaward Road in Wellesley. We are literally 5 minutes away. To get to us from Sun Life headquarters: take a left out of the parking lot onto Rt. 9 W. Follow Rt. 9 to Rt. 16 West exit and turn left onto Rt. 16. At the second set of lights (past the blockbuster), turn left onto Seaward Road and we are the first gray building on the right.

3.) Do you see children and what age should they start coming to the dentist?

We do see children and we follow the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommendations that all children start seeing a dentist within 6 months of their first tooth, or by age one, whichever comes first. We have a pediatric dentist available, as well as a hygienist who is well experienced in cleaning children's teeth.

If you attended the fair and have additional questions or if you have interest in Wellesley Dental Group visiting your company, please give us a call at 781-237-9071 or email us at

Staff getting healthy

October 5th, 2009

This is the first Monday in our dental staff exercise and health program where each week we'll track our combined hours of exercise and post our goals, tips, and success here!

We want to be the healthiest team of dental providers we can be, especially as we enter what looks to be a severe flu-season.  By exercising, eating well, and staying motivated together, we know we can certainly improve our health and hopefully inspire some of our patients and the community to join us.

We've named our challenge the "Wellesley Dental Group Fit Challenge" and we will be calling ourselves the "WDG Fit Team."

As of now, we have 8 in-office participants, including all three doctors: Dr. Ejaz Ali, Dr. Femina Ali, and Dr. Nooruddin Pradhan. When we get handy with graphs and charts, we will certainly showcase our efforts. As the weeks go on, I'm sure our confidence levels will rise and we may even get some before-and-after shots in here.

Our official exercise tracking begins today, Monday, October 5 and will be posted every Monday with no end in sight.  Exercise tracking follows a Monday-Sunday week.  L

As a baseline, our staff exercised for a total of 16 hours, 5 minutes.  Not bad to start; it averages to about 2 hours per person.

Please follow along with us.  We welcome readers to post their exercise times here as comments, too.

Yesterday's Picnic in the Park was a fun burst of meeting new people and seeing some familiar faces.  Despite the rain showers that couldn't make up their mind, there were many families out and about at Hunnewell Field.

Our friend the Tooth Fairy was kind to join us again.  She noticed how beautiful all the kids teeth were and told the children they were doing a great job. "Keep brushing!"

Last week to help American Cancer Society

April 27th, 2009

Through this Thursday, we are donating all proceeds from the Vizilite Plus oral cancer screenings we perform to the American Cancer Society. Oral cancer rates are staggering and many new cases are among people with no risk factors for the disease.
We now recommend an annual advanced oral cancer screening for people age 18 and over. Though at every dental checkup we perform a visual screening, our eyes can only see so much. The new technology available through the Vizilite Plus exam can identify lesions that are not visible to the naked eye, allowing us to take the proper steps in early diagnosis.
For more information on the Vizilite Plus or to set up an appointment, please call us at 781-237-9071 or email Abby at

WDG at Fun Run on Saturday, April 18

April 14th, 2009

This Saturday, April 18, Wellesley Dental Group is co-sponsoring and participating at the highly anticipated Wellesley Community Children's Center (WCCC) Fun Run and Fun Fair.  Actually, we won't be running ourselves, but we will be on site and we welcome all families to stop by and see us.

The  29th Annual Fun Run, and the array of games, activities, amusement rides, and food begin at 8:30 am and last until noon at the Wellesley High School track.  The WCCC let us know that the Fun Run in 2008 had over 500 children registered for the non-competitive run!   Registration forms and start times for each age group are available at

We are proud to be a part of this community event, especially because the proceeds from his event benefit the Early Childhood, After school and Middle School Programs at the WCCC.

Please join us and feel free to contact us if you need any more information on our participation.

April is National Oral Cancer Awareness Month

April 1st, 2009

Every hour, someone dies from oral cancer and 100 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed every day. With an early diagnosis, there is an 80-90% survival rate. Unfortunately, a majority of cases are not discovered until the later stages because most cancerous lesions cannot be seen during traditional screenings.
Just as we have pap smears, mammograms, and prostate screenings, we recommend a more advanced screening for oral cancer, such as the one we use called Vizilite Plus, at least once a year to patients.
The Vizilite Plus allows us to identify lesions at their earliest stages, making treatment of the disease more simple, less invasive, and more successful.

Throughout the month of April, in honor of National Oral Cancer Awareness Month, Wellesley Dental Group will be donating all proceeds from any Vizilite Plus screenings performed to the American Cancer Society.

A common misconception about oral cancer is that you need to be a smoker or chew tobacco to be at risk. Even non-smokers are at risk for oral cancer, and new research has linked the disease to HPV. Anyone who is 18 or older or sexually active should be screened.

We invite everyone to schedule a screening, including non-patients. The screening is painless and takes less than 10 minutes. Please forward this information to everyone you know and care about. For more information, please call us at (781) 237-9071 or visit our website at

We really hope we can all make a difference in the fight against oral cancer.

Join us this Thursday!

March 19th, 2009

With two days left to go until our Invisalign Day on March 26, we wanted to remind you that everyone is welcome to this fundraising event for the Wellesley Food Pantry. With your help, we can collect much needed non-perishable food items and we can raise money for the pantry to make purchases of perishable items.

Invisalign, the clear alternative to braces, will be featured at this event. A representative will be on hand to go over the advantages of Invisalign as well as present different success stories. Interested guests can save $495 on the Invisalign records fee by donating a minimum of $50 to the food pantry. There’s also a $500 rebate available for anyone getting started with Invisalign that day!

Please join us this Thursday from 3 to 7 pm (or anywhere in between) and help out a great cause. For more information or to reserve a time slot to see if Invisalign is right for you, please call Wellesley Dental Group at (781) 237-9071.

Belle of the Ball Prom Gown Collections

March 4th, 2009

[caption id="attachment_85" align="alignleft" width="225" caption="A donated dress for Belle of the Ball"]A donated dress for Belle of the Ball[/caption]

Each year, Anton's Cleaners, a family owned Massachusetts business, sponsors the Belle of the Ball drive to collect, clean, and then distribute prom gowns to high school junior and senior girls.  These girls are nominated by community members, teachers, and others and would not normally be able to afford to attend prom.  The service concludes with a "boutique day" where the girls are assisted in picking out a dress, shoes, and all necessary prom items.

Wellesley Dental Group is happy to be a drop off site for this gown drive.  If you have any gently worn or new prom gowns (must be within 3-4 years old so they are still trendy) and you'd like to help, please bring your gown/s to our office by April 10th and we will make sure to get them to a local Anton's for cleaning and distribution.

For more information on this event (many volunteer positions for Belle of the Ball might still be available) please visit

Invisalign Open House

February 24th, 2009

Join Drs. Ali and Ali for an exciting afternoon on Thursday, March 26th at our Spring Invisalign Day!  The event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and an Invisalign representative along with Drs. Ali will be on hand to present the countless success stories of Invisalign patients.  You don’t have to be a current Wellesley Dental Group patient to attend or receive the special discounts offered – ALL ARE WELCOME!

Invisalign is a very popular and aesthetically pleasing way to get a straighter, better looking smile.  Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign provides clear, removable, plastic aligners that are custom made to shift your teeth.

At this special event we are providing significant patient savings and a fundraiser for the Wellesley Food Pantry Drs. Ali will waive the normal Invisalign records fee ($495) for anyone who donates a minimum of $50 to the food pantry.  In the past we’ve been able to raise a substantial sum for this organization, and we hope to continue to do so, especially during these challenging times.  As an added bonus for attendees, we’re offering a $500 rebate to anyone who chooses to start Invisalign treatment right away.  We’ve never offered such savings before and hope that this may help if you’ve always been curious about what Invisalign can do for you!

Please R.S.V.P. for this event by emailing Abby at or by calling us at (781) 237-9071.  You may also contact us with any questions you may have.
