Happy World Smile Day from the Smile Ambassadors!

October 2nd, 2014

world smile day

Today is a special holiday - celebration of positivity and friendly connection that smiles create! Your smile says a lot about you: it can be the basis of a first impression, it reflects both your personality and confidence and leaves a long-lasting impact on others. Smiling is the most efficient way to communicate friendliness, trustworthiness, desire to connect and offer emotional support.

Multiple studies have been done that support the health benefits of smiling or even seeing a smile on somebody's face. For instance, in a study where participants were flashed a smile, even though it was shown too quickly for them to even realize they had come across it, they started to perceive things around them more positively. Marianne LaFrance, a psychology professor at Yale, concluded that if we see a happy face for just 4 milliseconds,  that’s long enough to bring out a mini emotional high.

A smile activates the release of dopamine, endorphins and serotonin that all work to reduce stress. Endorphins are known to act as a natural pain reliever and serotonin acts as an anti-depressant/mood lifter as well. Many pharmaceuticals have done extensive research on synthesizing a drug that will influence levels of serotonin, but a smile is the natural way to go, without the negative side effects and the necessary prescription from the doctor.

It is our mission to help you obtain and maintain a healthy, beautiful smile that reflects who you are. Your smile should be one of your biggest assets, and we’re here to help make sure it is! If there is something you would like to improve about your smile, we can offer you a professional smile makeover! It's like makeovers they offer on TV, only this one will last you for life!

Early Orthodontic Treatment at Wellesley Dental Group

August 8th, 2012

Did you know that there is an prime time for a child to see an orthodontist? The American Association of Orthodontists suggests that the first orthodontic exam should be done at the first sign of orthodontic issues or no later than age 7. At this young age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but a short examination can help pinpoint the most beneficial time to start treatment. This also helps achieve the best results with the smallest amont of time and money.

Even if a child is not ready for orthodontic treatment just yet, visiting an orthodontist is still beneficial. They will be able to watch the development of the teeth and set a time when treatment should begin.

Age 7 is the optimal age to first see an orthodontist because the first adult molars have come in. It allows the teeth to be completely evaluated at all angles for bite.

At Wellesley Dental Group, Dr. Emad Abdallah, our orthodontist, is happy to provide a free consultation to evaluate your orthodontic needs. Call us today at 781-237-9071 to schedule an appointment!

Benefits Of Invisalign

August 8th, 2012

We can all agree that straight teeth are aesthetically pleasing. However, did you know that there are health benefits as well? Having straight teeth helps you maintain overall good health. Invisalign is the clear, virtually undetectable way to straighten teeth without brackets and wires. Using this system is a great way to achieve optimum oral health without anyone knowing you're straightening your teeth.

One of the main benefits is healthier teeth and gums. A cause of inflamed, red gums can be crowded or widely spaced teeth. It can also be a sign of periodontal disease. When teeth are correctly aligned, the gums fit around the teeth more snugly. This is the best defense against developing gum problems. Invisalign can easily shift your teeth into alignment, giving you the ultimate dream smile!

Braces are often times hard to clean. Food gets stuck between the brackets and wires, and without proper removal, tooth decay can develop. Invisalign uses removable aligners that are taken out to eat, brush, and floss. No more trapped food!

Straight teeth will lead to great overall health, too. Untreated gum disease and tooth decay can lead to a multitude of problems in the future. Studies conducted by the American Dental Association show that oral infections can lead to the development of serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

If you've been thinking about straightening your teeth, now is the time! Wellesley Dental Group is having an Invisalign Special Event on September 27, 2012 from 3pm-6pm. Drs. Ali and Ali will provide free consultations to see if Invisalign is right for you. You will also receive a complimentary teeth whitening worth $550 with your scheduled treatment.

Also, part of the proceeds will be donated to the Wellesley Food Pantry, a wonderful organization committed to helping others. Space is limited so call today to schedule your appointment at 781-237-9071!

Stem Cell Therapy Could Help Dental Problems

August 8th, 2012

Researchers have recently discovered that regenerating craniofacial tissue (mostly bone) is possible using stem cell therapy. It is a much faster process and less invasive than regular bone regrowth methods.

The study examined 24 patients who needed reconstructive surgery after having teeth removed. Some of the patients were treated using stem cell therapy and others using the traditional method.

Darnell Kaigler, principal investigator and assistant professor at the U-M School of Dentistry, said "In patients with jawbone deficiencies who also have missing teeth, it is very difficult to replace the missing teeth so that they look and function naturally. This technology and approach could potentially be used to restore areas of bone loss so that missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants."

Using stem cells is a great alternative because it uses the patient's cells rather then foreign ingredients. The results of the study were positive. All of the patients received dental implants after 6 to 12 weeks, and the ones with stem cells were regenerating bone at a quicker rate. They also needed less bone grafting.

This technology is still quite a few years away from being approved for mass use, but it's an exciting option to look forward to.

CEREC System Is Beneficial To Both Dentists And Patients

August 8th, 2012

When it comes to restorative dentistry, most patients want to get it done as soon as possible. At Wellesley Dental Group, we are thrilled to have CEREC technology that enables us to do just that. Roddy MacLeod, Sirona's Vice President of CAD/CAM, sums it up perfectly:

“People are busy; they don’t like coming to the dental office more than once to get a tooth fixed or to have other issues remedied. Sirona’s CEREC® system capitalizes on patients’ desire to minimize their visits to the dental office by enabling restorative treatment to be completed in one appointment rather than two or more."

Because the CEREC system speeds up the process, Drs. Ali and Ali are able to help more patients. It allows the patient to receive an all-ceramic crown in just one appointment. They have beautiful aesthetic value as well.

CEREC crowns also allow Dr. Ali to cement the permanent crown in the same appointment as the tooth preparation. The risk for an infection is greatly reduced, which can happen with a loose or lost temporary crown.

Contact us today to learn more about CEREC crowns at 781-237-9071 or smile@wellesleydentalgroup.com. Drs. Ali and Ali are happy to explain how this innovative technology can benefit you!

Outstanding Yelp Review

August 8th, 2012

We recently received the below review on Yelp. We are truly speechless and touched by our patient's kind words and comments. Thank you so very much!

08/07/12

"After a negative experience at another local dentist, I followed my friends' advice and took my then 2.5 year old twins to see Dr. Femina Ali at Wellesley Dental Group.  Immediately, she put my children's minds at ease--even conducting my daughter's dental exam in a waiting room chair when she was too nervous to sit in the big dental chair.  Dr Ali's patience and natural ability with children has had such a positive impact on my children that they actually LOOK FORWARD to their semi-annual cleanings and visits.
Once we saw firsthand their high level of service and dedication at the Pediatric level and realized that they work with adults as well, my husband and I switched for our own dental visits as well.  Now we all go as a family, which I feel sets an especially good example for my kids.  They see that we're making our dental care a priority, so they are as well. My husband and I have both needed fillings in the past five years, and Dr. Ejaz Ali is an absolute perfectionist (which we love)!  Using cutting edge technology, he makes a mold to not only fill the tooth, but to make it a seamless match that will last a lifetime and look like it was always part of the tooth.  He did such a great job that I opted to have my previous fillings taken out and replaced with his handiwork.  My teeth look great and my smile is brighter and healthier than ever!

In addition to Drs. Femina and Ejaz Ali, I also have to mention their staff.  They employ a team of people who are warm, engaging, and passionate about dental health.  In the office and representing the practice around town, they make everyone feel welcome and take a genuine interest in each patient.  They even help entertain our kids while we're having our teeth cleaned!

Over the years, we have used their Oral Surgeon Dr. Ghazi to extract numerous teeth from both children.  He has the gentlest touch and always took great care to make it quick, easy, and painless for my children.  My children have also seen Dr. Emad--their orthodontist--to have their teeth evaluated for future orthodonture needs.  As a busy working mom, I am so grateful to have these services offered in-house, so I don't have to go elsewhere.  It makes it so much easier for me, especially knowing their high standard of care.

All in all, we can't say enough about the Wellesley Dental Group.  They are what every dental practice should be.  After six years as patients and friends of the Wellesley Dental Group -- we wouldn't trust our teeth and smiles to anyone else!!" - Joanna
