2009 was a huge year for Wellesley Dental Group!
We were very active this year, participating in many community events and organizations, and we added a pediatric dentist, Dr. Nooruddin Pradhan, to our dental team.
To recap some of the highlights of the year, I've put together some of our favorite photos and pieces about 2009.
We started a blog this year, with our first post in February. This has been a very fun and efficient way to provide updates about our office, events, dental news, and special promotions.
February is National Children's Dental Health Month. It was our chance to share with parents the recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry that all children see a dentist by age one or within 6 months of their first tooth. We provided free comprehensive exams to all new children during February.
February is also the month that we normally begin our elementary school and preschool visits. We love working with the school nurses and teachers to coordinate these visits; the kids are so responsive and have wonderful ideas about keeping their teeth and gums health.
The Wellesley Food Pantry benefitted from our March Invisalign® Open House - patients saved at least $495 on their orthodontic treatment if they made a $50 donation to the Wellesley Food Pantry.

In March, the Belle of the Ball gown drive began. This is a program sponsored by Anton's Cleaners that provides low-income girls the opportunity to attend the prom in a free, clean, and stylish gown. Girls choose dresses at a boutique-style event each year.
Wow - April was a very important month because it was Oral Cancer Awareness Month. We donated proceeds from all advanced oral cancer screenings (we use Vizilite Plus®) to the American Cancer Society. Oral cancer is on the rise in the United States, and it seems to be affecting more and more people with no risk-factors. For more information about this disease, please read here.
Looking back, we also started a Twitter account in April (www.twitter.com/wellesleydental) and gave away free WDG tote bags on Earth Day. Our green efforts multiplied and we started recycling boxes and as much in-0ffice paper waste as possible.
During May, we celebrated with the town as part of Wellesley Wonderful Weekend. This weekend includes a Veterans' Parade and a Picnic in the Park. At the parade, we always have a float and the Wellesley Dental Group team hands out toothbrushes to the parade watchers. With the environment in mind, we did not pass out the toothbrushes in plastic bags, knowing that they might not be recycled and would end up thrown away.
The Tooth Fairy always joins us during our parade and the picnic. She poses for photos with children and gives them helpful brushing and flossing lessons.

In June, we were honored for the second year in a row as the #1 Choice Dentist in Wellesley in the Community Newspaper Company's "Readers' Choice Awards." This means a lot to us; knowing that our patients appreciate our service and choosing us out of the dozens of dentists within Wellesley gives us great motivation to do even better.
Through using Twitter and hearing from other sources, we learned about the non-profit organization Cradles to Crayons. The summer months are a time when their incoming donations drop down, as students are not in school and people are often on vacation. We knew that we could help by hosting a drive for Cradles to Crayons at our office - and because we had the space, we offered to be a permanent drop-off location in Wellesley. One of our staff members periodically brings the donations to their Quincy headquarters.

In the summer, we started working with a few interns from Babson, which was great because the college is so close. The interns brought to our attention some perspective about college students' health and how they take care of themselves while away from home.
We thought it might be helpful to donate toothbrush/paste care kits for Babson students, in coordination with their Health Services Department. So in September, as incoming freshmen were being welcomed, we donated over 500 care packages to the students.
Once September started, we started planning ahead for all of our fall activities. Children being back and school and families back from summer vacation really brings a healthy energy back to Wellesley.
Dr. Nooruddin Pradhan was introduced to many pediatric patients this fall.
