Should I Get Cosmetic Dentistry?

If you're considering cosmetic dental treatment, ask yourself a few simple questions:

  • Do you hesitate when you smile?
  • Would you like to increase your self-confidence?
  • Do you want to look your best in social or professional situations?
  • Are you ready to reverse any dental imperfections you may have?

If you've answered yes to any of these questions, cosmetic dentistry may be the answer you've been looking for!

Veneers

You no longer need to hide your smile because of gaps, chips, stains, or misshapen teeth. With veneers, you can easily correct your teeth’s imperfections to help you have a more confident, beautiful smile. Veneers are natural in appearance, and they are a perfect option for patients wanting to make minor adjustments to the look and feel of their smile.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from tooth-colored materials (such as porcelain), and they are designed to cover the front side of your teeth. To prepare for veneers, your doctor will create a unique model of your teeth. This model is sent to the dental technician to create your veneers. Before placing your new veneer, your doctor may need to conservatively prepare your tooth to achieve the desired aesthetic result.

When your veneers are placed, you’ll be pleased to see that they look like your natural teeth. While veneers are stain-resistant, your doctor may recommend that you avoid coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco to maintain the beauty of your new smile.

Do you find yourself wishing your teeth weren’t as yellow or brown? You’re not alone- which is why teeth whitening is one of our most popular cosmetic treatments! This quick, easy, and affordable treatment can take years of stains off your pearly whites, restoring the shine to your smile! At Wellesley Dental Group, we’re proud to offer both in-office and take-home whitening options that can make a dramatic difference in your appearance.

Learn More About Teeth Whitening

There are plenty of over-the-counter teeth whitening products you can purchase at your local grocery store or pharmacy. These items range from pain-on whiteners, teeth whitening strips, and whitening toothpaste or mouthwash. While promising and convenient, these options rarely achieve the results patients are looking for. Instead, they may leave you with a lackluster smile and uncomfortably sensitive teeth.

At Wellesley Dental Group, one of the teeth whitening options we offer is Phillips ZOOM! teeth whitening. This well-known brand uses more powerful ingredients than store-bought whiteners, and it is specially designed to minimize enamel sensitivity. Most patients are great candidates for Phillips ZOOM! teeth whitening, so call us today  to schedule your consultation.

Dental Bonding

Bonding is a conservative way to repair slightly chipped, discolored, or crooked teeth. During dental bonding, a white filling is placed onto your tooth to improve its appearance. The filling “bonds” with your tooth, and because it comes in a variety of tooth-colored shades, it closely matches the appearance of your natural teeth.

Bonding is less expensive than other cosmetic treatments and can usually be completed in one visit to our dental office. However, bonding can stain and is easier to break than other cosmetic treatments, such as porcelain veneers. If it does break or chip, tell your doctor. The bonding can generally be easily patched or repaired in one visit.

Cosmetic Dentistry FAQs

WHAT IS COSMETIC DENTISTRY, AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM GENERAL DENTISTRY?

Cosmetic dentistry combines both art and science to give you a healthy, aesthetic, flawless smile. While general dentistry is aimed at maintaining the health of your teeth and gums, cosmetic dentistry provides comprehensive treatment options that improve and preserve the way your smile looks and feels.

Common cosmetic treatments include:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Contouring/tooth reshaping
  • Bonding
  • Bridges
  • Veneers
  • Dental implants
  • Tooth-colored fillings
  • Smile makeovers

WHY SHOULD I SEE A COSMETIC DENTIST?

A cosmetic dentist is trained to safely and effectively provide a variety of treatments that are designed to enhance your smile. If you have missing teeth, you feel that your teeth are crooked, or you're an adult looking for an alternative to braces, a cosmetic dentist can help you achieve the beautiful smile you've always wanted.

HOW LONG WILL EACH COSMETIC TREATMENT TAKE?

Just as every smile we treat is unique, so are the treatments we provide. While cosmetic treatment times may vary, some treatments are completed within one dental office visit.

WILL MY DENTAL INSURANCE COVER COSMETIC DENTAL CARE?

Insurance coverage and out-of-pocket expenses for cosmetic treatment vary. Our dental office will work with you to provide several different treatment options, and we will coordinate with your insurance provider, if coverage is available. You will know all of your treatment costs up-front so that you can choose the best payment plan for your needs and your budget.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR TEETH WHITENING?

Patients who experience the most benefit from having their teeth whitened:

  • Are in good dental health
  • Maintain good dental health (i.e. brush three times a day, floss, receive regular dental checkups every six months, etc.)
  • May suffer from slightly discolored or yellow teeth
  • Wish to improve the look of their smile for aesthetic purposes
  • Are in good physical health

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS WITH TEETH WHITENING?

Teeth whitening is a safe, effective procedure, and does not typically include any negative side effects. Minor side effects may consist of:

  • Increased tooth sensitivity to hot or cold
  • White spots on the surface of the teeth (a potential side effect of at-home whitening systems)
  • Nighttime whitening trays may cause additional gum sensitivity or irritation.
